Indian dal with mustard oil
Ingredients (for a side dish for 4 people):
1 tbsp ghee (also available in our shop)
2 tbsp mustard oil
100 g Mung Dal
1 bay leaf
1 shallot or onion, finely diced
1 tsp fresh ginger, finely diced
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp fennel powder
1 tsp turmeric
1 pinch of asafoetida
1 pinch of pepper
Rock salt
500 ml water
To serve:
rice
Chutney
fresh herbs
2 tbsp mustard oil
Preparation:
Soak mung dal in water overnight.
The next day, rinse the dal and cook it with a bay leaf for about 10 minutes.
Briefly sauté the ghee together with the spices, onion and ginger over medium heat.
Add the dal, pour in about 500 milliliters of water and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
Serve with basmati rice, chutney, fresh herbs and a little mustard oil.
