sesame oil

Product Description

Our sesame oil – unroasted, cold-pressed and mildly nutty.

Sesame is possibly the oilseed crop that humans have used the longest and that was one of the first to be cultivated intentionally. Tradition and archaeological finds show that sesame oil was used in cooking and personal care as far back as antiquity. In Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine and the science of life, sesame oil is considered the quintessential plant oil. It is highly prized as part of a healthy diet and for application to the skin.

Use in the kitchen

Because our sesame oil is unroasted, it has a milder flavor than the darker version made from roasted seeds. Its nutty, gentle taste is perfect for salads and vegetables, and adds a pleasant note to muesli. Since it can be heated gently, it's not only suitable for finishing dishes but also for sautéing. Whether you're cooking savory or sweet, the possibilities are endless.
Tip: Ayurvedic literature contains countless recipes and application ideas for the kitchen as well as body care.

Unroasted sesame oil on the skin

What is healthy for internal use, i.e., for nutrition, can also be applied to the skin. For the classic Ayurvedic full-body massage, Abhyanga, the oil is gently warmed and then generously applied to the entire body from head to toe. After the massage, the oil is given 20 to 30 minutes to absorb into the skin before showering. This massage is considered balancing and calming for the body. In the hair, the oil adds shine to the ends and, as a hair treatment, nourishes the scalp. Ayurveda also highly recommends sesame oil for morning oil pulling.
