Cold-pressed high-oleic sunflower oil for frying and baking
Our frying oil is made from high-quality, high-oleic sunflower seeds, offering a cold-pressed oil option suitable for hot cooking. Whether frying or baking, this mild oil is the ideal all-rounder for anything that needs to be heated.
Application of high-oleic sunflower oil
We normally advise our customers not to heat cold-pressed oils. This is the only way to ensure that valuable nutrients are preserved. Furthermore, the intense heating process of conventional virgin oils can cause the polyunsaturated fatty acids to transform into unhealthy substances such as trans fats, free radicals, or even potentially carcinogenic compounds. That's why it's so important to use high-oleic sunflower oil for cooking. Its mild flavor makes it suitable for a wide range of uses: for searing meat or vegetables, deep-frying, or baking as a plant-based alternative. This oil is our go-to choice in our shop for any recipe requiring heat.
Hot oil from the cold-pressing process – Made in Switzerland
We source our sunflower seeds from sustainable, pesticide-free Swiss farms in Unterkulm. We know our supplier and their farming methods personally and are proud of our Swiss Made product, which is produced entirely in Switzerland, from cultivation to the bottled oil. The seeds are cold-pressed in our Zurich facility, producing our native, high-oleic sunflower oil at a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.

What does High Oleic mean?
High oleic translates to "rich in oleic acid." Oils with this characteristic have a particularly high proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids, i.e., oleic acid. Since monounsaturated fatty acids are more heat-stable than polyunsaturated fatty acids, their smoke point is significantly higher, allowing them to be heated to higher temperatures. Gold Oil Mill's frying oil is produced from very special high-oleic sunflowers, which have been specially bred. Suitable plants from a Russian mutation were propagated to alter the fatty acid profile – this is achieved entirely without genetic engineering. Traditional sunflower oil has a fatty acid distribution of approximately 10 percent saturated fatty acids, 30 percent monounsaturated fatty acids, and 60 percent polyunsaturated fatty acids. Because of the latter, the oil is not suitable for high-heat cooking. The distribution is different in the special high-oleic sunflowers: approximately 10 percent saturated fatty acids, 10 percent polyunsaturated fatty acids, and 80 percent monounsaturated fatty acids, which give the oil its heat resistance. The proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids can vary depending on the plant, but is usually between 75 and 90 percent. Since it is often heated anyway, cold-pressed sunflower oil is rarely found commercially. However, we want to preserve as many nutrients as possible and therefore only use the cold-pressing method; that's why we offer a virgin, high-oleic sunflower oil in our shop.
