Product Description

Our sesame oil – unroasted, cold-pressed and mildly nutty

Sesame is possibly the oil plant that has been used by humans for the longest time and was one of the first to be deliberately cultivated. Traditions and finds show the use of sesame oil in cooking and body care as early as ancient times. In Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine and science of life, sesame oil is the plant oil par excellence. It is considered a valuable ingredient in a healthy diet and for application to the skin.

Made from high-quality seeds
We produce our sesame oil from unroasted Ugandan sesame seeds, grown organically. These high-quality seeds are processed in our Zurich factory using a cold-pressing process at a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius. Because we avoid roasting, our oil has a pleasantly mild flavor. Unroasted, cold-pressed sesame oil also offers a key advantage: the seeds' valuable nutrients are largely preserved.

Unroasted sesame oil: What's in it
This oil has a fat content of 50 to 60 percent, making sesame one of the fattiest oil plants. It contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, making it particularly nutritious.

Use in the kitchen

Because our sesame oil is unroasted, it tastes somewhat milder than the darker alternative made from roasted seeds. The mild, nutty flavor pairs well with salads and vegetables, and adds a pleasant touch to muesli. Because it can be heated slightly, it can be used not only for seasoning but also for steaming. Whether savory or sweet dishes, the sky's the limit.
Tip: Ayurvedic literature contains countless recipes and ideas for use in the kitchen and for personal care.

Unroasted sesame oil on the skin

What is healthy for internal use can also be applied to the skin. For the classic Ayurvedic full-body massage, Abhyanga, for example, the oil is slightly warmed and then liberally spread all over the body from head to toe. After the massage, the oil is allowed 20 to 30 minutes to absorb into the skin before showering. This massage is considered balancing and calming for the body. In the hair, the oil brings shine to the ends and, as a hair treatment, nourishes the scalp. Ayurveda also recommends sesame oil especially for morning oil pulling.
